American Refining Group

American Refining Group (ARG) acquired the former Kendall/Witco Refinery in Bradford in March of 1997. Prior to this acquisition the refinery and packaging plants were scheduled to be closed. This would have resulted in the loss of over 200 jobs and a yearly loss to the local economy of $50 million. ARG, the OECD, local and state elected officials worked with the Governor's Action Team to put together an attractive financing package, which enabled ARG to proceed with the acquisition of the refinery. This package included the following: City of Bradford loan, $300,000; Enterprise Zone loan, $200,000; an Opportunity Fund Grant, $1,000,000; and additional job training assistance. ARG is now a very valuable part of our local economy. Presently over 240 people are employed at ARG's facility in Bradford.
