Code Enforcement and Demolition

Code Enforcement

As evidence of its commitment to eliminate blight, City officials created the position of Code Enforcement Officer in 1995 to enforce the City's housing and other property codes. From July 1, 1995 to December 31, 2006, Code Enforcement officials have performed 1,780 sale inspections, 207 re-sale inspections, 780 initial rental inspections, 3,568 tenant change inspections and placarded 320 properties. During their inspection of rental properties, 5,945 code violations were cited with 5,432 corrected and re-inspected.

Demolition

Since the mid 1980's, the City of Bradford has expended over $500,000 to demolish and clear over ninety blighted residential/commercial properties. City officials are committed to the elimination of blighted property within the community.

After a four year hiatus in CDBG-funded demolition due to disposal costs, the City of Bradford demolished eleven properties in 2005 and 2006 for a cost of $90,606. They are located at 33 Belleview Avenue, 19 Kingsbury Avenue, 109 Euclid Avenue, 125 Euclid Avenue, 28 Whitehead Avenue, 47 Interstate Parkway, 27 Jackson Avenue, 81 ½ State Street, 24 State Street, 157 South Avenue and 238 South Avenue. Even with the demolition of these eleven properties, there remain a number of dilapidated residential properties throughout the City. Pending availability of funding, the City will continue its efforts to eliminate blight through the demolition of these properties.
